Product: Synology DS1817+
CPU: Intel Atom 2538 Quad Core 2.4GHz
RAM: 2x4GB
Storage: 8x8TB SATA drives, 7200RPM, configured as RAID6 with 1 hot spare.

Thus far, Synology has refused to extend the warranty on a DS1817+ (C2538 CPU) that died yesterday after about 4.5 years. It was purchased to replace a DS1815+ that died and WAS replaced under warranty since it was about 2 years old. The older device has been unused for about a year, but I moved the 8 disks from the new machine to the old one and it came up, restored the settings from the drives, and is now running as a server until I can build a new one to replace it. Using an existing MB/PS/boot disk in a new case will cost a lot less than a new Synology. Synology has lost my business.

After 5 years uptime with my 2 switches Dell S4048-ON , on one reboot booth switches is dead and my infraestruture is down, Dell Brazil refuse to make RMA because my warranty expired October 2020. I only discover this problem now

Supermicro A1SRI-2558F MB just stopped booting about 5 years later running 24/7. It hung and then will not soft-reboot. Strangely, a hard power off / power on will still boot it up most of the time.

Sending in for RMA.. Supermicro just asked to put “C2000 RMA” as the problem description so I suppose a number of these are coming due.

My Supermicro A1SAM-2750f board died after 6 years of working fine 24/7. Thats how I found about this bug, which I was not aware of previously. I have to praise Supermicro Europe RMA service, as they asked me to send board, and repaired it free of charge (not sure if they replaced CPU, or just reflashed IPMI firmware and BIOS), although it was out of warranty long ago.

Meanwhile, I have trouble with Gigabyte about my desktop motherboard RMA, despite it been under warranty still

My Synology DS415+ failed with this bug last week. The enclosure was replaced under warranty but the data did not survive. I had been using it as an iSCSI target for a VMWare datastore and the LVM label became corrupt at some stage. Synology support were unable to fix it. In fact they said they had no way of accessing the FS in the configuration.
I’m glad I was backed up, but you don’t expect to lose data on a RAID10 volume…so beware!
